Stiliyan Dichev "Neo Romanticism or Brutalism" October 7 – October 19, 2025

Nuance Gallery presents the exhibition "Neo Romanticism or Brutalism" by Stiliyan Dichev, from October 7 to 19. This is the fifth solo exhibition of the author in the gallery space. The exhibition explores the tension between dream and harsh reality, between lost romance and the brutalism of the modern world. It traces the transition between two opposing states of mind and thought, combining abstract form with deep reflections on the place of humanity in the technological age.

"In times of technological renaissance, which distances us from our nature, we suffer from the lost romance inseparably connected with dreams, beauty and humanism, reborn in pompous and devoid of humanity brutalism. An interesting fact is that this process has accompanied the development of society for millennia. The clash or more precisely the transition between them is an interesting topic for me. Comparing it with the birth of a new era or meaning of existence, we can find answers to many questions. In my new exhibition, I try to recreate this reality through abstract images, believing that what is happening around us is what we are today. By creating images, I hope that the viewer will subconsciously feel the time we live in. Lost, but with a desire to be found again, we experience these phenomena together. I present works of the same size, which I like very much - 130/108 cm. Most of them are painted on MDF, some on canvas with acrylics paints, spray and lots and lots of water. Water, strong, powerful and uncontrollable, was in some cases my faithful assistant and gave me a chance to do what you see today. It moves, freezes, spills and creates wonderful images. As always, I try to have the technique follow the idea, not the other way around. The names of the paintings are once again purely formal, so that the viewer can build the image themselves. As in my previous presentations to the public, they are marked with a numbering representing my next exhibition, year and number in the exposition. I would be happy for my new exhibition to be interesting and provocative, to pleasantly surprise you.“
